Barbara Ehrenreich is an American immunologist, activist of the democratic socialist and left-wing feminist movement, publicist (representative of modern revelatory journalism). In 1968 she received her doctorate from Rockefeller University. She has taught at State University of New York, New York University, University of California and Honorary Chairman of the Democratic Socialists of America.
She supported candidacies of Ralph Nader (2000), Dennis Kucinich and John Kerry (2004), Barack Obama (2008). The most famous books: Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America (2001). In 2010, according to American Association of Librarians, this book was included in the list of 10 books that most often tried to withdraw from the library holdings.
Other books are Dancing in the Streets: A History of Collective Joy (2007), Smile Or Die: How Positive Thinking Fooled America and the World (British title, 2009).
In 2006, she was a co-founder of the United Professionals organization, aimed at protecting labor rights. She calls herself a fourth generation atheist.
